Hi ACtheTROLL and Ethel, Just to say thanks for the recent advice about my laptop rebooting problem. I have managed to sort it before taking it in to the shop, by reinstalling xp several times in a row. It could have been comodo messing thigs up, I don't really know. I have put a post on my original thread:

Hurrah!

Very frustrating, these techie problems, but so very satisfying when you've sorted it out yourself.

Let's hope you're trouble free for a long while now.

Thanks for letting us know. :)
hurra indeed ... would have been nice to know why ...
but a fix is a fix ... and a new install is a good idea - every so often anyhow

Thanks for that, But I feel a bit of a fraud as I have no idea what the real problem was. Don't know why several xp re-installs would work when one on its own didn't, but like you say a fix is a fix. It's actually my wife's laptop, and she is very careful about security etc, mainly uses it for family history stuff. Only thing we can think of is that a few weeks ago she got an email that was complete gobledegook, total nonesence. She tried to delete it but it just kept resending itself! We ended up having it blocked by our IP service and never got it again. She never opened it fully but it might have infected the computer somehow as the problems started sometime shortly after that. AV scans didn't detect anything though. Still all's well now.
Thanks
