Car Sales - reduced discount on alternative vehicle

I purchased a 6 month old Renault from a main dealer a couple of months ago. They did not have the car in stock but could order it in from Renault. The retail price of the car was �11,600. At the time I negotiated the cost down to �10,250 and was feeling very pleased with the purchase. 2 days after collecting the vehicle I noticed a few problems that I was not happy with and rang the dealer who agreed to change the vehicle to an exact replacment in line with the customer policy from Renault. I was given the new registration once the vehicle was ordered and when I looked the replacment vehicle up on the renault website (it had not been removed quickly) I found that the retail price of the replacment car was �10,995 making my original discount much less. I rang the delaer who would not hounour my previous discount of 11% or order another vehicle that matched the same retail cost as my original purchase. (there were vehicles on the same Renault website which were in the original price region). As I had part exchanged my old car for the said Renault I was carless and needed a vehicle quickly so decided that I would take the vehicle and if ok would look to pursue a claim back from the dealer afterwards. I have written to the dealer who will not agree to honour the original discount. Can I take any further action or should I just walk away? I have print out from the renault site showing the original and the last vehicle with teh relevant retail price and also the relevant order forms showing the discount agreed. Thanks

Is car 2 different in any way from car 1? Are the specs different?

Ethel, the car is exactly the same apart from being registered for the road 2 weeks later than the original model. I negotiated on � - not on %
You got what you paid for at the price you were happy with.

It's exactly the same as buying something one day and finding the same shop is selling it half price next day.

Just be thankful your problems were sorted quickly and efficiently. Don't forget that had your original car been perfect, you woould be in the same position now - the RRP has dropped.

You have had the original discount - you haggled to pay the price you did and have not paid a penny more. :)

If you realy want to pursue this do not talk to the garage get in touch with Renault UK.
i work in the motor industry as a sales manager and we have this a lot, the problem the dealer may have is he may not have the same profit margin in the second car to be able to honour the original discount.

Did you sign a new order form for the second car, which outlined the "deal." If you did and it states a discount of 11% then they are legally obliged to honour it. If you didnt then there is no written agreement of this discount relating to the second vehicle, therefore you have no leg to stand on im sorry to say. I hope this was of help to you. On the upside Renault have one of the best after sales networks so you have bought a good car, that is the main thing.
