Hi, can anyone help me? I have a gas cooker with 4 hobs. The problem is that one of the hobs is not working properly. When I switch it on, I get a high/normal flame around one half of the burner and only a very low flame on the other half, making cooking on it almost impossible. I have cleaned it all as much as possible, but the problem still persists. Does anyone know if it is a simple problem that I can fix myself or will I have to opt for the expensive option of calling out a cooker repair man?

Is the little plate on straight? I have this problem sometimes when I've cleaned my cooker and I haven't put the little flat plate thing back on straight.
Don't call anyone one out yet! You'll not be able to afford to cook anything on it if you do!
Have you tried drying it really well as sometimes water in the gas outlet will stop the flames. Also, try leaving the flames on a bit in case there's a bit of food waste stuck in the way that might burn off. And squiggle the black bit about a bit as Spud suggests.

I have an electric cooker so am not the best person to comment on matters concerning gas appliances.

However, my sister-in-law had simmilar problems and I went equipped with a paper clip which I straitened and pierced all the gas inlet holes with it. Result was everything back to normal.....Ron
this problem is usually caused by the burner or burner cap not sitting over the gas outlet properly.

could be caused by grase blocking some of the burner ports, you could try soaking the burner and burner cap in boiling water for a while see if that helps clean it up.

Thanks, just one quick thing. There is a small screw holding the actual burner in place. is it safe to remove this and take the burner off to clean it or will i get a gas leak?
No, the gas flow is controlled from the relevant knob.If the knob is turned off , so is the gas.
the burners not normally held in place by a screw, you usally have a burner cap which lifts off, then the burner underneath which is a metal ring with cut -outs for the flames to come through, then underneath that is a metal base that the burner sits on and probably a little brass injector.

Yes it is the metal ring underneath with the cut outs that is held in place by a screw. Can I take this off to clean it or not?
