Drive designations

Many years ago I had a computer with WIndows NT4. It permitted me to reassign the drive letters if I wanted.
Now I'm using XP pro and different memory sticks and cards which I transport between various machines. With most of them when I plug them in, they assume the next alphabetical drive letter. (i.e. If I already have the hard drive C: and another drive D:, they will call themselves E: etc.) One of my drives, however, will always call itself J: (even if D:, E:, ... I: are free).
Is there a way I can get my different memory sticks and cards to be designated as I want them?
