On peak / Off peak train fare discrepancy/argument
7 Answers
I get the 0926 northern rail trains service (from levenshulme to Manchester Ox rd)
Off peak tickets are only valid after 930
The service usually turns up around 933. If it turns up after 0930 am i entitled to purchase an off peak ticket at the station on arrival
I have been doing so and the ticket guy at the barriers always caves in and gives me the off-peak ticket but not without an argument first. Is there something in writing i can print off and show him or am i wrong in thinking that the off peak ticket is valid on a 0926 service running late (after 0930) ?
Thanks is advance

While I'm not disputing what dzug and In A Pickle are saying, where I live I don't buy a ticket for a particular train, I buy a ticket to the destination...
Therefore it matters not what the train is doing but when you purchase the ticket (this of course would not count if it's a pre-booked ticket)
I'd imagine it will be difficult for you to hang on until 9:30 as if the train turns up at 9:29 you would need to purchase the peak time ticket and then run for the train.

you can buy tickets the night before you travel - such as when you get off again on your way home... just tell them the name of the ticket you want - off peak return etc travelling after 9.30 am the next day
it woult save you this, as it iwll probably be a different ticket seller... it would also save you queueing in the morning...
