Msn Messenger for Mac

I have the MSN Messenger version 3.5 for Mac.. on my Mac OS X version 10.1.5 it used to work fine until a while ago when it began quitting almost every 15 minutes. Sometimes it even signs me off when I try to send or recieve a file. I haven't figured out what is wrong, and i can't find any better versions for the version of macintosh that i have. If anyone knows how I can possibly fix the problem , I would appreciate it a lot.
