You have probably all seen the Restart Now message when XP has updated and you accidently click it and it restarts the PC or you move from the PC and it restarts while you are away

I know there is a way to stop this in XP pro by using gpedit.msc but is there a way to stop this message in XP Home or at least delay it for a few hours ... I have tried the net stop wuauserv cmd prompt you can use but find it doesn't always work and it is not permanent.

Many Thanks

It's a weird idea I know......

But how about you stop clicking things by accident.

It might put people like me out of work... but it is good advice!
anyhow moan over :)

start > settings > control panel then open security centre... at the very bottom under where it says manage security setting click on automatic updates

then put a tick in the option to download but let me chose when to install.

click ok a few times

away you go!

Thanks or the replies Chuck - I know this works but it relies on you to remember to install just before you close the PC - is there a way to stop the Nag screen instead?
"xp nag screen"
is this the little box that opens and gives me 60 seconds to save all progress or loose it ?
been getting this for a couple of weeks and thought it was a bloody virus !!!
:-(
No, it is the one that tells you to restart your pc to complete the updates
cheers Ethel.
i do regular updates, so im guessing it isnt that !

sorry for barging into your thread Fiesta.
the way to stop it is easy - switch off automatic updates.

then all you have to remember is to check for updates ...
but if you can't remember not to click on restart ........

funky - you're right - it depends how and what update you are updating.
