is there a way i can completely remove vista from my laptop and install XP?
the laptop came with vista installed.
i have already tried to install XP as a dual boot...which worked fine an was great...but certain drives etc wouldnt work...namely the modem.... i think everything else worked, i cant remember... but because i needed the net so i had to have it put back. i am now on broadband and have just a cable...so will it now work...?
If you dual boot - you have to install all (most of) your progs twice - esp system drivers such as modems (and you'll need the correct vista/XO versions.
back to XP
some manufacturers agree with MS not to produce drivers for more than one version of windows - and so get a cheap deal on the OS
many dixons machines built with 98 couldn't be loaded with XP - 'cause there just weren't any drivers,
so maybe you can - maybe you can't - did your dual boot not work 'cause you didn't do it right - or because you couldn't get the drivers?
hi , yeh i located the modem driver - but it just would not install...tried loads of times...
XP worked fine...i did it correctly...it was as has been said...drivers...
i really couldnt care less about what it looks like or the way it runs...ive just had nothing but hassles with Vista...and none of my old software works on it.
it was a nightmare t6o get put back...so unlessi know of a surefire way to make all drives etc work...i am not risking it...
its just that my laptop is ****** at the mo so i was thinking maybe now is the time to get XP put back on while i am having it fixed..
if you can't find drivers - it's worth trying an install (which you have) - sometimes the vanilla drivers work ok - but if your device manager looks loke a motorway accident - you've had it
