If I have a spreadsheet with a list of numbers that may be repeated many times down the column, is there a formula that can count how many times that particular number is listed?

=COUNTIF(A1:A100, 999)

Would count all occurrences of the number 999 in column a from a1 though to a100

if you use
=COUNTIF(A1:A100,d1)

you can just enter a search value - same thing really
