Trojan spyware/virus

I would like to know if anyone can recommend a way to get rid of trojan spyware in my computer.I get a pop-up encouraging me to click on it to download latest anti spyware but it's just a carrot. My virus software has removed some viruses already but the pop-up remains.
I have also learned that Registry Patrol which I've had for ages is actually a malicious program !
Any suggestions ?

My friend at work recommended Super Anti Spyware and it cleared some stuff that Spybot Search and Destroy couldn't. Free version available, just search it on google.
