update manager is disable, help please

Hi, I have AVG Internet Security v. 8.0.198 and keep getting the message: update manager is disabled. But when I try to tick where it says: Start automatic updates, and save, it just becomes unclicked again. Another thing, I think my firewall should be set on standalone computer but it is set on Allow All and again, when I choose Standalone computer, it just comes back to Allow All. What can I do? I have not been able to work out what to do from the online manual and I have e-mailed AVG helpline but they have not answered me yet. BTW it is not a free version, I paid for it! BTW my computer runs on Win XP Home Ed. v. 5.1.2600... if that helps... Thank you very much for any help!

I had this problem a few days ago. I just kept trying Update Now and it finally updated.
