Dividing file into smaller files of same format?

I've got an .avi file of a tv show with about seven episodes. Is there any way for me to cut the file up so that each episode of the show is contained within its own file. I don't want to change the format just make smaller files from the original one.

If you have Win XP then you can import your file into Movie Maker make the changes and save as file1, file 2 etc.
If not then Virtual Dub is exellent editor which handles avi format. If you want more control and pro editing tools then try Avid free dv
