I am looking to buy a new laptop but need a half decent graphics card. The model I've chosen just has: "UMA Graphics" It doesn't say anything else.
The specs I need for the game i play:
PC OS: Windows XP or Vista Processor: XP: 1.4GHz or Faster / Vista: 2.0GHz or Faster Supported Processors: Intel Pentium 4, Intel Core, AMD Athlon Memory: XP: 512MB RAM / Vista: 1.0GB RAM Hard Drive Space: 2GB DVD-Drive: 4x Speed Video Card: 128MB *Supported Chipsets (see below) Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible Directx: Version 9.0c (included) LAN: TCP/IP compliant Input: Keyboard, Mouse *Supported Chipsets - Nvidia FX 5900 Ultra or greater; ATI Radeon 9800 or greater; Intel 82915G/82910GL or greater. Earlier cards may only display 2D Match Viewer Mode and are not supported. Laptop versions of these chipsets may work but are not supported.
The laptop I've selected:
Processor Type Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5800 Processor speed (2 GHz, 800 MHz, 2MB Cache) The higher the number of Megahertz (MHZ) the faster the processor should be Memory Size 4 GB MB Memory Type DDR2 Hard Drive Capacity 160 GB The bigger the capacity the more you can store Optical Drives DVD Super Multi Drive Floppy Disk Drive NO Floppy disks are 3.5" square and store a small amount of data. CDs,DVDs and memory sticks are now usually used instead Screen Size/Type 17" CrystalBrite Graphics Card Type UMA To enable images to be displayed on your monitor Graphics Memory Shared MB The higher the memory the better quality images you are display TV-out YES Allowing you to plug your laptop into a TV to watch DVDs Sound Type Dolby(R) Surround Sound To enable you to have sound from your computer which is great for games, movies and music Modem Type 56k
UMA just means it shares the main laptop memory and hasn't got it's own dedicated memory for the graphics.
The actual graphics card could still be anything so can't answer if it would meet the game specs or not. but if your at all interested in playing games you'd be better of looking for a lappy with dedicated graphics memory... but they cost more.
if you post the actual laptop make and model somebody may be able to let you know more about the actual card it has in it.
And I honestly don't ever play any games whatsoever except for Football Manager, which is the game whose specs i've put above. So I don't need a great card really just a decent one to do 3d match viewer on FM09
