Anti Spyware

Hi my laptop had been crashing and lagging for ages,i was about to take it to the computer shop as enough was enough,anyhow i was using the free version of spyware doctor,and suddenly had this thought that it wasnt picking up as much spyware as i would have liked so i did some research and was recommended SUPERANTISPYWARE and MALWAREBYTES ANTI MALWARE (both free) downloaded them both and run scans and found 247 spywares in total,so deleted them and my laptop is like brand new again now,just thought i would give these two a mention as im sure im not the only one out there that had this problem and was giving up all together, i ran Superantispyware scan first and that picked up 243 of the infections with Malware picking up another 4.

Super AS is a known false positive scanner ... it basically does nothing but promise the earth
If it was so good and the rest were so bad ... don't you think the security community would be singing it's praises .... they're not ... and the biggest clue of all ... none of the "legit" download sites have it available

anti mal at least appears on d/l sites ... I have no experience of it ... so can't comment ...

Kev ... it's nice of you to think of us ... but have you actually tested these packages ... ie infected a clean machine with known threats ... then scanned to see which were found ...

a nice box isn't a sound basis for recommending security packages
The best source for anyone is look in the mags ... and the trusted sites and see what actually works.
In 5 mins I can write a prog that will "identify" and "clean" 1,000,000s of "threats" that none of the mainstream scanners will report

lol Troll i also see your point but if these were totally rubbish then why is my laptop running like a dream now? it seriously is running faster than ever,seriously i checked out lots of sites and funny enough 8 out of 10 sites gave different answers as to which anti spyware was the best,i guess its all down to the individual and the type of sites they have been looking at on their Pc/Laptops,i actually listened to this guy here who runs his own PC repair shop and runs these two spywares on every PC/Laptop he has in his shop http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-adwa re-spyware-scumware-remover.htm?page=8 im happy anyway and if you can recommend me a free anti spyware thats better than these two then please let me know as im always willing to Learn more and test out these findings.

I take your point ... scanners come and go ... but the legitimate security sites tend to latch on to the better ones ... they might have different favourites ... but in the main they are all chosen from the same pool of 8 or so brands

I've never seen sasw mentioned in any article other than those which list it as a false positive scanner

malware bytes on the other hand gets favourable reports ...

two popular freebies are ad-aware and spybot search and destroy

but more and more these days these scanners are incorporated as part of an internet security suite

at the moment Kaspersky is the top dog of many of the magazines

personally I tend to be pretty conservative with this sort of thing ... magazines have the resources to test lots of packages with the same real threats and compare the results

I prefer to follow their lead ... I don't know enough to disagree with them ...

Cool answers Troll i guess i will try out the others you mentioned in time,for now tho im a happy chappy and everything is still running fine,i enjoy reading some of your answers on here as ive learnt one or two things from them so keep up the good work. Kev
