nokia 5310 packet data settings

my nokia 5310 has lost the settings for sending and receiving multi media messages. i have tried nokia.com and o2.com for the setiings but to no avail.
what are packet data settings in plain english?
is there anything i can do(apart from buy a new phone) to restore the settings.
