Have you actually installed the printer (or, more accurately, the driver for the printer)?
It seems that your laptop can't find the driver it needs to communicate with the printer. You need to run the software on the disk which came with the printer, to install it.
Plug-&-play or not, you'll still need the driver. You can either install it from the disk or, if you've not got the disk, you can download what you need from the internet. (Windows does include some standard drivers but the relevant one is obviously not present on your laptop).
If you need help with finding the download, post again, telling us the make and model of printer, together with the version of Windows which your laptop uses.
I get this trouble some times but have now beaten the b... For some reason the printer fails to print so you try again and still no print, the fault is a print que. all the times you tried are building up and the thing mine Epson rx640 will never print untill you clear it..
On mine I right click on the printer next to the clock and clear the backlog and the thing prints perfectly. It happened again last week.
