Hi, I have a tower connected to a printer via usb. The computer is wired to a netgear router. The router is wired to a powerline unit. This then sends the Internet down the mains. The Internet is picked up at a laptop in another room. This works very well. I have set file sharing and printer sharing etc. But I cannot get the laptop to print back down the system. Both machines are Vista. I don't think the laptop sees the other computer. But do I need to change the cat5e cable between the tower and the router to a crossover type? Or is there something else I need to do.
Don't know anything about sending broadband down the mains but...Are both machines password protected?
Vista won't share properly unless both machines have a log on password.
I found this out the hard way!
Thanks for the help.
Yes the printer is shared.
Yes computer share the same name.
Still not sure whether the first cable should be a crossover.
I did download and follow Microsoft's guidance.
