Fitting a USB2 card (cont....)
Right. Bought a new USB2 Hi-speed card whjich came with a driver disk. Fitted the card into a slot OK and put the lid back on and restored all connections, but the USB connector is a very tight fit in the new port(s) and I don't think it is fully home as I don't want to force it.
Switched on the power - nothing. PC does not start up. The only way I can get it to work is to replace the USB connector in the old USB1 port. Any idea what moght be wrong ? Should I run the driver disk and then connect to the new port(s) ? How do I get the connector to fit in smoothly ? Can I use a bit more push ?

windows (which version? ... usb1.1 generally means 98, me, 2000)
cards are tough
make certain it's all the way home... double check the connectors .... and only then switch on
you could have damaged the mobo already ... once the machine is on ... it should give the detected new hardware ... and then ask for the driver disk
but check the instructions ,,, and make certain that the mobo and os are supported

Thanks, all. Let's try to make this clear.
It's Windows 2000XP with service pack 3 with USB1 port.
Trying to fit a USB2 (Hi-Speed) card with four ports.
No instructions supplied with USB2 card and no on-screen request to insert diver CD. When I do insert the driver CD there are no on-screen instructions and it does not run automatically.
What are Mobo and OS ?
