Does your keyboard have a full stop or any punctuation symbols at all?
I much prefer a wired keyboard and mouse just because changing the batteries is a faff.
Used to have endless fun with these where I once worked, seeing from how far away you could operate someone else's desktop.

Who on earth is bothered about whether you have cables or not? Why are you so bothered? Are you investing in technology because of how it looks to others, or for what it can do for you?
If you turn on legacy USB keyboard support in the BIOS then you may find the cordless keyboard will work before XP has booted and allow you to go into the BIOS using it.
agree totally a gadget for the sake of gadgetry

only use I can see would be if you ran a proper media centre setup connected to your telly in your front room ... then the keyboard is in effect the remote

I agree about keyboards. I've just spent 63 dollars (+ 129 Euros in duty )on a re-manufactured 1995 IBM corded keyboard and it can't be beaten. But a cord on a mouse? A real nuisance as far as I'm concerned.
