Suddenly, for some reason, when I start to type into the search-bar Google gives me a list of subjects beginning with the first letter that I typed. These are not subjects which I have previously searched for but appear to be random suggestions from Google as to what I might be wanting to look up. I find it really irritating: can anyone please tell me how to get rid of this? I am using IE with XP.

on the right hand side of the search box, you should see a tab for preferences, click the tab and then click the query suggestions box as required. currently you have the default setting, so just change it

hope this helps
Go to the spanner sign on the toolbar. This adjusts toolbar settings. Click on it and remove the tick from the "Suggest search" box. Save settings and this should sort it.
