Potatoman's answer to my problem of the right hand side of my monitor turning yellow seems to have hit the spot. Many thanks. One of my speakers was really close to the monitor. I have moved it away but the problem remains. Now what? Should it fade back to normal or is it some kind of permanent damage? Should I reinstall the monitor or does it need to go to a specialist to be degaussed or whatever they do?

maybe you need to unplug the monitor for a little while for the rest of the color to go away. i always thought it would go away by its self shortly after moving the magnet. either way its not permanant damage.

You probably need to use a degaussing wand on it to get it back to normal.  Most monitors and tv's have them built in, and they work as the monitor/tv is switched on.

You can see a degaussing wand here:

The loud grunt you hear from a monitor when you switch it on is a pulse of mains delivered to its de-gaussing coil. If after a week or so of normal use, switching the thing on once a day, doesn't fix it, then think about some external de-gaussing from someone who knows what they are doing.
the auto degauss only works when you use the hard on-off switch, ie.not standby or sleep/power save mode.
