Is Clipart copyrighted?

I have found an image on Microsoft Word clipart which would be a great logo for an organisation I'm setting up. I'm told some clipart is copyrighted. Is there any way to check? I don't want someone turning up demanding thousands in royalties.

Probably not - it will say if it is. BUT it's hardly a good idea to use a public domain image as a a logo; after all the logo could pop up all over the shop on other people's documents and sites - in fact, there would be nothing to stop a rival organisation from using the same logo!
