Any reason why, when I put my computer into standby it kicks itself back into life within seconds?

it's a problem with many answers ... vista or xp?

Its XP. Its only just started doing this in the past week or so.
look in power options ... enable apm (advanced power management)

also check disk space ... you need 20-25%

check disk for errors (chkdsk) and defrag
right click on the my computer icon.

select the properties and change the settings of the stand by , turn off hard disk.

click OK and apply.
