I have just looked at various PC suppliers and found that nearly all are supplied with windows vista. So far I have always had XP pro.

Also I find that the majority only have 6 USB connections. My present one has 10.

Who has had experience with window vista - how does it differ from XP pro?

Microsoft are due to replace Windows Vista with a new version (Windows 7) in October this year.

If you dont need the PC urgently it may be worth wating till October and get Windows 7.

If you need it now, then Vista will be fine.

Vista has had some terrible press, but I dont believe it has deserved all the bad press it has had.

I have to say I prefer XP to Vista, but buying XP now, 2 and a half years since Vista came out, would not be a great idea (due to support issues, fixes and so on).

You can easily add more USB ports to a PC by buying a USB adaptor.
I'd wait - october isn't far off - and the suppliers get early copies - so they will ship for the launch date

if you wait a couple of months then some suppliers will also add the option to upgrade to Windows 7 in the package. this means they will give you Vista and then Windows 7 at a discounted price. The upgrade path for Vista to 7 is supposed to be very easy.
