Portable harddrive vs flash drive??
Hi Folks
I need back-up. At least 10Gb mainly for music, documents and photos. My current space I am using for all that is about 11Gb but I will obviously be adding in the future but not that much so I could get away with a flash drive or even a couple of them
For me both types of drive have plusses - flash drive has smaller size and external drives have more storage. I can go for either.
The question is..... which is more technically reliable generally speaking?
I know that you can get good and bad of anything but I would go for a product that has good reviews.
Thanks
Miles

the most reliable backup would be a few decent quality DVD's, make two copies of your backups on them, and store them properly and separately from each other.
Both external hard drives and flash drives have their own problems when it comes to using them for backups
Hard drives are very susceptible to physical damage, it really doesn't take a huge knock (especially if they are running) to damage the drive
Flash memory, although physically much more resilient, only has a finite amount of times it can be re-written before it fails
Both of these facts can cause separate problems for each type of media when used for backup. Personally, if I had to choose, I'd go for an external hard drive and make sure you handle and store it carefully.
