I've got a Packard Bell machine running XP. Its got one of the built in SigmaTel C-Major soundcards on it. When i try playing mp3s, i either get high sound disturbance that stops the music, or it won't play at all and I get the following messages in these players
In winamp:
DirectSound output v2.2.10 error

Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration.
Error code: 8878000A

In Windows Media Player:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly
C00D11BA: Cannot play the file

Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000

This sound interferrence happens on any sounds. I've tried updated drivers but nothing. I've also googled and found the problem but no solution bar reinstalling XP!!! When the probem first started, simply rebooting the pc would make it work, but this no longer works.

Just wondered if anyone would have an idea to get the sound working correctly without having to buy a new soundcard.

Thanks in advance, robbieh

found an answer where the guy says its usually related to directx so try updating to or reinstalling direct x9.0c

i always thought direct x was graphics related only but try it anyways
