I install Ubuntu 8.10 as a parition with Windows XP and all goes well untill I try to run the programme. Then I get a menu and whatever I select Ubuntu starts to open then stops leaving a blank screen. The only way out of this is to switch of my computer at the on/off swtich and try again. Any idea please.

Did you follow the standard install?

In the menu, does it show Windows at the bottom? What happens when you choose that one?

And why are you using 8.10, when 9.04 has been out for ages?

Thank you. Yes I followed the installation instructions. I use 8.10 bedause tha is what I have. However I Have given it up. Thanks for your answer XP does not cause me any problems
It's worth persisting.

Ubuntu 9.10 is out in a few weeks, or you could try Linux Mint, which is also great (currently version 7).

They can be downloaded from their websites, or you can order CDs for free.
