Toshiba Laptop problem

My Toshiba laptop, model satellite L350D,'crashed'. I loaded the 2 recovery disks and got to a stage saying 'BOOTMGR is missing' Then went to F12menu,but could get no further. Any advice please???. Toshiba assistance say -possibly hard disk needs replacing!

IPOD ? is there one that you can put in the car?

any computer clean up things on vista?

try starting the recovery again, if at any point you get given the option to go into the recovery console select that.

Once in the recovery console tpye "fixmbr" (without the quotes) and hit enter, then try restarting the computer.
