Laptop screen full of lines

After much whirring and getting quite hot my daughters laptop screen is now just a collection of fine lines.Is it repairable or of f to the knackers yard.

Getting hot doesn't sound a good sign.
But how much would it cost you to get it checked out ?

Dont mean to sound patronisng but have you tried switching it off and back on again? it may come up with a disk check or something which may fix the problem

Have switched back on and off again and still the same.I think pc world start at about 30 quid to look at it
Funny enough thinking about it the same sort of thing happened with 40 inch tv i had they eventually replaced it

I guess it is no longer under warranty.

May pay you to check out the smaller electronic repair firms in your area. They may give it the once over for less. Or ask family/friends/neighbours, one of them might know someone who can check it out. Sorry not to be of more help.

I would try an independant company, they will probably be cheaper for a diagnostic check than PC world

I think i will at least try and get someone to look at it but i have a ominous feeling that i shall have to dig deep to get another

Have you tried simply using a vacuum cleaner on the fan vent?

Whirring and getting hot are both symptoms of the problems caused by the build up of dust (but not necessarily exclusive to that problem).
