Microsoft Word 2002 Disk

When my computer is warming up it shows three overlapping messages. The top one tells me that the features I am trying to use are on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available and asks me to insert Microsoft Word 2002. The second indicates an error 1706. The third gives me the option of cancelling, which when used allows the computer to complete startup. Can I stop these messages from coming up? Thanks,someone.

Put an Office 2002 disk in when asked. There is probably a half-finished update or modified feature you have started which requires the disk .. just like SP3 for Office does.
Failing that, try looking for latest updates in Add Remove and uninstall them (you may still be asked for a disk, tho)
Another try could be to select the select the Office install in Add Remove, and then modify/repair.

If you don't have a Microsoft Office/Microsoft Word CD, one idea would be to uninstall Microsoft Office/Microsoft Word (Via Start -> Control Panel -> Uninstall a program) and then install Microsoft Office 2010 Beta, which you can download for free.

This will expire on 30th October, but at least you'll have until then find or buy the CD.

By the way, did these problems happen recently? If so you can use System Restore to return all your settings to how they were before the problem occurred. Just go to Start -> All programs -> Accessories -> Systems Tools -> System Restore. Go for 'Choose a different restore point', 'Next', tick 'Show more restore points', and then choose from the list a date before you had this problem.

Or another idea would be to uninstall Word (and the rest of Office) and replace it with the completely free (and file format compatible) OpenOffice: http://www.openoffice.org/
