Opening an Ebay Account

This may seem a daft question but, there are a few questions that l need to ask about starting up on Ebay, which users on their forums can no doubt provide the answers to.
However, you need to register before submitting a question. Doh!
At the moment l live in France (and am not totally fluent with the lingo as l should be) but I can also provide a UK contact address if so required.
As it's a one off registration with a particular userid, how do l register with Ebay?
- do l logon to the UK site and give English address details
- do l logon to the UK site and give French address details
- do l logon to the FR site and give French details
or can l do any of the above?
When l know, and have registered, l can then logon to the Ebay forums.

Thanks Eddie, you've been most helpful. Thinking about it (although l hold both FR and UK accounts) think l'll sign up in FR and access UK as you suggest.

Hyperthetically then, for example, let's say l have something like a Victorian Brooch.
I cannot find anything about it using Google, and so l have no idea of it's value, but have a feeling it must be worth something. (this could apply to any item that can't be researched).

So my questions are -

I don't want to sell it for £5 when it could be worth say, £100, and l don't want to put down a ridiculous price and frighten people off. How does one value an object in these circumstances? Do l put down a value that l would be happy with and can this value be a reserved price.

Also, where do l sell it? If l put it on Ebay UK, how do other countries Ebay users know about it. (is it just from its description l give and the category it's placed under?)
If it's placed on Ebay UK, l could get more from someone in another country.

And finally, how do l know what the postage costs are (depending on the answer to above question). I could ask the cost of postage from France to the UK but what about the cost to a different country depending on buys it?

Sorry these may seem like goofy questions, but armed with this info then l'll be 99% there and can then make a start in rooting out some stuff to sell!

Get it valued so as to have some ides of what it's worth....Start your item at a low price and set a reserve on it.
If it's an auction you only have control at what price you start your item at...not at what you would like for it.
You could also put it on at a fixed selling price.

People search for specific items worldwide..so if they search for ''victorian brooch''..thats what they will find.
Try it yourself and see.

Take photos of your brooch...package it up...weigh it...and then surely you have the equivalent of our mail system in France.
Go on their website and you will find charges relating to internal and worlwide shipping...insurance etc.

When you list it on eBay...say whether you are willing to post worldwide.
Any prospective bidders will usually ask...how much to post to ... Alaska or Timbuktu !

Think you can only use 'best offer' with Buy it Now, which you can't do until you have 10 feedback. Also, you may not get a best price for something of value with 0 feedback, potential buyers could be wary of buying from someone newly registered.

i agree with cw1 ,try selling a few bits and pieces like cd's and stuff 1st ,get some feedback ,customers will always shy away when you have little feedback ,and not been registered long
