My Epson SX400 was purchased to replace My cannonMP220 for ink cost reasons The photo prints from the Epson are consistently dark and red coloured.I have tried to adjust from menues but it's not much better.I have had to revert to the Cannon for photo printing and they remain perfect .Any ideas.Have you had the problems. All other prints are OK with Epson.I use the correct paper and Epson inks.

Try headcleaning...if it's not sorted, return to sellers.
Do you have your printer in a cold room? I had a similar problem with my printer and realised that because I did not have the heating on, the cold paper was reacting with the ink, making my pictures red and smeared.
I got my room warm, cleaned the heads and the printer has been fine since.
