If that's not the problem, are you sure that you have created a VCD? (The ones I have made have basically been similar to DVDs, rather than "slide show" format). It seems unlikely that whatever you have made is the "wrong region". (If it is a region problem, post the model of your player - it may be possible to override the region settings, though I have a feeling it's not always possible on Philips machines).
OK, if it is a region-coding problem, there is a hack listed here: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=Philips%20LX7000SA . Note the warning, though!
If it is a problem with your software, there are a few guides on making a photo VCD here: http://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?howtoselect=3;9#3;9 , but you may need to pay for some software. (Some of the tools they list are free, though).
It may also be this: I found JASC Paint Shop Pro listed, and you can make photo VCDs with it, but it looks as if you need "Paint Shop Photo Album" to do so. If you have this, I suspect that when you come to the stage when you actually "burn" the CD, there may be a region-coding option to allow you to set the region for the disc. (If there is, if you can set it to "0", you should be able to play it on any player; if not, the UK is Region 2).
Hope this helps/makes sense! Oh - I'm not from the Channel Islands, but my screen name is explained here: http://pages.sbcglobal.net/mace/
