Is there any way around this or do I need to get a new scanner.

Maybe but not necessarily, have you tried plugging it in without installing any drivers to see what happens?
I thought I'd have to buy a new printer when I changed to Vista as Epsom doesn't provide Vista drivers for it, instead compatible drivers are already included in the Vista OS. Out of box installation. Worth a try.

install a program called Vuescan,this loads drivers for nearly all scanners including old ones.guaranteed to work for you in vista and windows 7
