power supply

I've been having a problem for a few weeks with the power to my old desk top cutting out every now and then but it would rest and work OK, On Saturday off it went but this time would not reset so took the side to see if it was anything like a fuse blown and found that the lead from the switch had come off (2 leads going into a tiny 2 pin plug) The trouble is I can't see anywhere obvious markings as to were it's supposed to connect are these boards standard or do each manufacturer make their own up? any help would be appreciated before I end up going off spending money on something simple

Best thing to do is look at the motherboard and find out the manufacturer and model number. Then go the the manufacturers website and look at the manual it will show you the layout of the connections on the motherboard

If you look carefully, you'll see a whole bunch of coloured wires coming from the front panel and going to the motherboard. They will all end in similar one, two or (possibly) 3 pin plugs, and will all go to the same set of pins on the motherboard. In amongst then you will find a pair labelled pwr, pwr sw, or similar, and there won't be a connector on them. Guess where the connector in your hand goes?
