Whenever i try to listen to youtube it keeps pausing on and off all the way through the song, any ideas welcome.

It may be buffering. On the progress bar, there should be some sort of buffering bar.
It's buffering when there is a circle of circles rotating on the screen.

Or you have a bad computer...

BBBE99 is right. You do not say if you have broadband or a dial-up connection.
If the latter, it's definitely the download coming in too fast for your computer/modem to cope and the computer is 'waiting' for the next packet of information/data.
If the former, you may be trying to download at a very busy time when the bandwidth is limited by the ISP due to the heavy usage by other users.
Either way, if you just pause the playback by clicking on the pause button under the YouTube screen, you will see the data still being downloaded by watching the download indicator creeping ahead of the playback button. When that's gone a good way along the bar, you can resume playback. It's a nuisance I know but if you're prepared to wait for it, you can see the playback uninterrupted.
