Scanner for Epson SX115 3-in-1 printer

I bought an Epson SX115 3-in-1 printer yesterday. All of the software has installed fine, apart from the scanner! I've tried downloading the driver from the internet and while the program downloads, it will not install. Every time I try to install it a small, grey rectangular box appears on screen halfway through. It says 'Epson Scan Setup' at the top and contains the sentences "Could not copy files. Make sure the target disk is not read-only." My computer operates on Windows XP and I wonder if there is a compatibility problem, although the people on the Epson help-desk say there shouldn't be. I've tried emptying my Temp folder and defragging the disk, on their advice, but still no luck! I don't want to take it back unless really necessary, as it is a good printer, but I need the scanner to work! Please help me, I'm tearing my hair out here!! Thanks.
