I keep getting a box up with status at the top it says 'the feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disc that is not available. Insert status disc & click ok. in a box below its got 1 & browse by the side which leads you to File name status Istallation Package (*.msi).and when you try to go online another box comes up saying Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close down, click here for more info then it 's got C;\DOCUME 1 \LOCALS 1\
I have tried reinstalling windows which works until you switch off your computer, but the status box still comes up, I have disinstalled McAfee because it kept saying you are at risk & there's only 4 days left on it anyway......
I've done a bit of Googling and repeatedly found references to the problem being linked to HP printer software. e.g. see here:
http://www.annoyances...rum/winxp/t1199212858
So, if you've got an HP printer, uninstall it and then reinstall. (If not, I apologise for wasting your time. Chuck will probably crawl out of the White Hart shortly!).
I used to get that (before I changed printers) and I reckon that it's a manifestation of a problem with Windows Installer that caused me to post this question http://www.theanswerb...s/Question893809.html which includes a link to download Windows Installer.
Hi Buenchico, so far so good I've got rid of the msi rubbish by unistalling HP Printer, now
I have still got the box ' Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close down', and I am unable to connect to the internet.. Oh! its so nice not having that box on the screen all the while, thanks a million any ideas on the next problem.....
Look like Chris covered part one of your question perfectly anyhow :)
I'd try running internet explorer without any add-ons enabled, as it's normally the add-ons that cause IE to crash.
Click start > all program > accessories > system tools > internet explorer (no add-ons)
Clicking the above will run IE with none of your add-ons enabled, if it runs OK and doesn't crash it's almost certainly a bad add-on, so it's time to disable all add-ons and then start enabling them one by one to see which caused the problems. (let us know if it works without the add-ons and we will go onto disabling them all)
Morning Chuck, thanks for your answer, it still comes up. It says error signature
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer:6.0.2900.2180 ModName urlmon.dll
Modver: 6.0.2900.3676 Offset: 0003df2f, what do you think???
Hi Chuck, I installed windows xp Pro once again, this is the 4th time in a week, will it do any harm??? this is just to get me on line, then I downloaded IE 8 like you said and Hey presto!! I just hope it will be on when I switch on tomorrow, Thank you very much....see you down the White Hart what are you having?
