MP3 Player

My (nearly) new car has an audio socket, and lead, provided for connecting an external personal MP3 player through the car's audio system but this won't work with my Packard Bell Audio Key MP3/WMA player (5 yr old). Will I have to buy a compatible MP3 Player? If so how do I find out which would be compatible.

Why will it not work? does the load not fit? in which case you may just need a different lead.

The audio socket should be compatible with any portable music device (mp3 player, portable CD, even an old cassette walkman).
Assuming it's a 3.5mm jack socket, you need a 3.5mm stereo jack to jack lead connected to the headphone socket/line out from your MP3 player.
If this doesnt work then you a) need to consult the user's manual for your car stereo and check the settings b) test with headphones that there is definitely sound coming out of your MP3 player.

Thanks for your help Guys, problem solved. I tried an old portable cassette player and it worked fine but still no joy with my MP3 although was getting sound through ordinary ear phones. Borrowed an MP3, tried that and it worked fine. Guess I'll buy an inexpensive MP3 specially for use in the car.
