Trying to add an mp3 by selecting Add File to Library which is the way I normally add single tracks. Problem is that when I do this the file isn't actually added to the library. I even tried to right click on the mp3 in explorer and open with iTunes but it wouldn't play. It works fine in WMP. What's the reason for iTunes not accepting it? File properties say that there is no protection.

Check your iTunes preferences under the Advanced tab. Is the "Copy Files to iTunes Media Folder when Adding to Library" box ticked?
