My computer has started to take up to 25 minutes before it stops 'churning' on booting up. Any ideas please on a) why, and b) how to speed it up again?

Thank you Boxtops, I'll keep fingers crossed
Soluto http://www.soluto.com/ is a program that I have been using these past few weeks.. You install it after a restart it will give you a breakdown of how long the various stages of start-up are taking. It has allowed me to reduce start-up time by a fair bit.

What operating system are you using? XP, Vista?
You need to know how many programs are starting up unnecessarily.
Have you ever defragged your pc?
Have you got adequate protection from virus, spyware, trojans?
