weve downloaded the correct software and drivers successfully.. as far as we know anyway,

soooo, my question tonight is - if his laptop memory is too low, (yes its low) will this stop the webcam from working?
thank you :o)

From looking at previous posts it seems you were directed towards the "Pocket Digital Driver"
I'm not so sure that this is the correct software to be downloading for the camera your father has. (Although, sods law of course dictates that logitechs site is down for Maintenance at this moment!) but from memory I'm sure the pocket driver is for the lower end cameras and not the pro range...
I'll check and confirm if I'm correct or not later when (hopefully) the site will be up again.

hiya chuck, aw thanks for popping by,
and hi albags, thanks for returning! lol .. couldntve been easy... ;o)
my dads camera is a logitech pro4000, and he uses windows xp
hes not had a chance to test the firweall thing yet - hes busy out there in his garden power washing the patio.
i know when he plugs the camera in, he says it comes up that the hardware is being recognised if thats any help?

OK, logitechs site is now working again and would seem to indicate he requires the quickcam 10.5 software to support that camera. (the pocket drivers might work, but they are not listed as being suitable on Logitech site)
This should be the correct software for that camera.
http://www.logitech.c...uickcam/qc1051enu.exe
Ignore anything to do with firewall and so on for the time being, get the camera working so you can see yourself first.

thanks chuck,
10.5 is what we first downloaded when we tried to get it working, so the software is all on.
he said he also followed the instructions for the 10.5 drivers on the logitech site, but im not too sure if that was successful or not...(?)
the light on the camera comes on when you plug it into the usb port.
and hes trying to get it going so he can useit with skype.
i dont think the camera is being recognised.
(how do we go about finding someone that does this remote assistance chuck? you know where they access the laptop and can have a go from their end? i bet this problem he has only needs someone with a bit of know how to sort it and itll be done in 5 minutes)

OK, I may have missed a previous thread about this, I thought you had been directed to download different software in the last one I saw when I looked back.
If you have the correct software then ignore skype to begin with, the logitech software should let you view the picture from the camera on his own computer..
If you load the logitech software (from memory here!) you get a kind of side bar menu come up, one of the buttons on the menu looks like two bits of film (I think it's the top option), if you click this then a window should open showing what the camera can see, do you get this?

ok, if, in the quickcam software, you click on the two gears that should open the settings, in there there should be a place where you can select the webcam you have. firstly make sure the correct webcam is selected.
If the webcam is not listed in the settings then the next step I'd take is to uninstall the software, unplug the camera and restart the computer, then install the software again making sure not to plug the camera into a USB port until the software instructs you to do so (often if USB devices are plugged in before installing the software for them they will fail to work correctly.)
