You need to check the motherboard specs and see what CPUs it supports
Pentium 3s didn't go upto 1.6ghz

The fastest P3 was a 1.4ghz, but that one is a later model that yours and runs at a different voltage, the fastest that runs at the same voltage as yours (1.75v) was a 1.13Ghz and to be honest the speed increase is so little you'd probably not notice the difference.

ok thanks guys i think we'll leave it as it is cheers
Put 2GB ram in it and have a clear out of any big files you don't need or move them to external drive. Defrag the hard-drive and make sure Windows is up to date. Use firefox browser for surfing. Switch to classic mode in XP and turn off all the effects. Use msconfig to see what's starting up and disable if not needed. Search on net for how to use msconfig.
