Recovering lost iphone contacts?

Can anyone help?

I had loads of contacts in my 'phone. Yesterday I synced my phone with my yahoo contacts and now all my original contacts have disappeared.

I am thinking that the originals must be in a back up folder somewhere, any help appreciated

They will only be backed up somewhere if you have previously performed a backup on your phone using iTunes.
