How to open email picture

Can anyone tell me how to see a picture in an email from known sender ?
There is just a white cross in a box but cant open it. thanks for any advice.

Does it say something at the very top of the email like 'safe content' or 'display content'?

In hotmail I have to confirm it's safe.

thanks for your replies it is hotmail and its not a picture its an address label for play dot com

Look for a yellow bar at the top of the mail and click on how content.

I get a message sometimes asking for permission to open a popup when I try to open a link. Might that be the same for you?

Are you using hotmail through their website? or something else such as outlook express?

says show full header at top right but still no address label

have a look through here as there are several reasons the label might not be shown, you can ignore all the ones that reference outlook or outlook express.
