Laptop or Computer?

I know its a bit early but my H has asked me what I want for Christmas, I think I'd like a Laptop but my daughter said unless you are moving about with it its not advisable. I must admit she and my DIL have trouble with Laptops.
I've got a fairly new 19" monitor ( I sit at a desk) I suppose I need a new Hard-drive. I've had this one 10 years. What I'm afraid of is transferring all my stuff over. - Is it a big hassle. I know it was when we moved I lost everything and had to get a man in to set me all up again, costing over a £100.
Any reccomendations for a Numpty like me.?

The point about mobility is important. If you would get any benefit from being able to take your computer out and about with you, then the decision is made at that point.

Also, space might be at a premium, and a laptop can be closed, unplugged and packed away in a few seconds which is not true of a desktop.

Transferring documents should be easy enough - simply copy them onto a removable device such as a memory stick and then paste them on the new machine. Application software (i.e. programmes like Word, Excel etc) will almost certainly need to be reinstalled from their original media. There are some utilities which will attempt to do this for you but, given the age of your existing machine, will almost certainly not prove very effective.

Jemisa...re the space thing....there are some really small units out there or some integrated (built into the monitor unit) I bought a laptop promptly added a separate heyboard and mouse and never take it anywhere wish I'd bought a PC I like the look ogf the little Dell Hybrids but I am sure that will have folks on here giggling at my ignorance....and they will say noooo they are rubbish or worse...They are small, attractive, stylish and leave room on even a small desk for a potted plant, a mug and a plate of biscuits

I have a Acer Aspire x3200 desk top, which is a ¼ size of the set I replaced, and fits i a very small space.

I think I'll ditch the laptop idea then I know it makes sense
When the day comes to go out computer shopping I'll go to somewhere like PC World
but I'm sure i'll be flumoxed by so many I'm bricking it really. I'll take my daughter with me I think, my H knows nothing, has never touched one in his life (I'll take his plastic with me tho.) tee-hee.

I would strongly urge you NOT to do that. PC World is primarily a box shifter and hardly ever provides the best solution...
