No CD/DVD drive

Since doing a complete system restore on my HP Compaq laptop (with Vista), The CD/DVD drive icon has disappeared from `Computer`. Only the main hard drives are shown. Nothing happens if I insert a CD or DVD. Any suggestions, please? Thanks.

I'll be interested too - we lost our D drive a few weeks back. Chuck suggested a solution but I lost the thread.
