USB Problem

Hi All
I bought a USB stick last year, 16GB
I've not really used it much but stuck it in my PC last night to see what I had on it. It said one file was using 5.9GB, when I know for sure that the file is not even 1GB.
I decided I didn't need anything on the stick so deleted everything off it.
The problem is now, when I go into it it says it is using 15.8GB and there's not a thing on the stick!!!
Can anyone help please?

Are you sure you didn't misread, and it's says capacity 15.8 GB?

No I didn't misread.
I've sorted it now though after trying all yesterday and a bit of today to do it!!
I formatted it and it seems to have freed up all the space. When I tried that yesterday it kept saying "In use, can not format"
Sorted now though
