I assume that you're referring to the dreaded Internet Explorer. (Most of the 'Technology' regulars around here wouldn't touch it with the proverbial bargepole. Most of us use Firefox, with Chrome also having quite a few fans).
Right click just below the box where you enter a web address. Click to put a tick alongside 'Menu Bar'. Problem solved.
Many thanks, Buenchico. My PC is being repaired just now (shoogly screen) and he'd mucked his up by loading Opera as his search engine, then tried a weird firewall programme and totally mucked it all up! Also the dog bit off the C key and whilst gluing it back on he managed to glue down the D key so now we have either no key or DDDDDDDD depending on how hard it is hit. Can I send him back for repair too?!
PS Got his Favourites back now, wish I hadn't looked!
Are you, by any chance,Scottish?
I'd never heard of 'shoogly' but Google suggests that it comes from 'north of the border'.
Incidentally, Opera isn't a search engine; it's a web browser. It's definitely better than Internet Explorer but I'd still recommend Firefox as your best option.
It's good to know that it's not just my friend's dogs who destroy things like keyboards. Her English setters have worked their way through several TV remote controls and even pairs of spectacles. Her digibox seems to be the latest prime target ;-)
Yes, I am Scottish but live in England with an English husband, for my sins! Sunglasses, headphones, large polybean bag (it's amazing how much mess that made), books, shoes etc have all been destroyed! Why can't they eat cheap things? Oh, please, I want my own PC back!
