Resizing of screens?

Please remind me - I am sure I have been told before.

When I go into various screens / websites they sometimes do not cover the entire desktop. I resize them each time by adjusting the sides/ top and bottom - but when I go back a while later I have to do this again.

What am I doing wrong please?

Pull the window out to the full screen size using the corners of the window and then close the window and it should remember it for next time, do not use the maximise button.
